When a student has completed all their training for NVQ Level 3 in Hairdressing and if we feel they are of the right calibre to continue with us, they are sent on the company Vardering Programme. This is their finishing course.
Vardering is an intensive training programme to get the student ready for their floor test and in preparation for salon clients. Technicians spend 10 weeks with the Head of the Technical Department at our Maidenhead Academy and stylists spend 10 weeks with the Head of the Styling Department at our London Academy.
After the 10 weeks, they present their 10 models to two judges in a professional floor test. The student has to complete all haircuts/colours to an advanced standard and pass all. If successful, they can progress to becoming a stylist or technician.
In the follow up to the vardering course, we provide a development course which allows the stylist/technician, for 6 weeks after successful completion of vardering, the chance to work through any cuts or colours they are struggling with and also helps to improve any artistic skills they may have. This provides stability and support for newly qualified staff and helps to further build their confidence.
