Summer in Style with Haringtons

We’re absolutely loving the warmer weather and summer vibes at Haringtons; but when we are sitting in beer gardens or barbecuing with friends, are we forgetting our essentials for good hair? Everyone knows a good dose of vitamin D works wonders for body and mind – but the same can’t always be said for our hair.

Hair requires lots of care throughout the year and summer is no exception, we want to keep our hair soft, shiny and full of life. So, we’ve put our heads together to give you our best hints and tips to help with your summer haircare regime.

Mens bright hair colour

Bright and Beautiful. Say goodbye to faded hair

While the sun can enhance your hairs natural highlights, it can unfortunately be one of the biggest culprits for fading your beautifully coloured hair. So how can we help keep the colour locked in? The best thing to do is to avoid shampoos and conditioners with SLS and SLES in them, research your shampoo choice or even better ask your stylist to tell you what to use. Though it may sound a little grim in this heat, skipping more shampoos will help to keep your colour locked in for longer.

Hair moisture haringtons condition

Lock in that moisture.

We all want to have silky smooth, soft hair – not straw. For years we’ve been protecting our hair against heat; whether blow-drying, straightening or curling but did you know you should also use heat protection on your hair against the sun?

Luckily lots of people (cleverer than me) have come up with some great solutions. Just like you would when you’re having that blow dry for a girls night or creating those curls you wish you were born with, apply your heat protecting spray or cream before heading out in the sun is essential – we recommend the Kerastase Soleil range which comes in a wide variety of solutions, from creams to shampoos to suit your hair type.

When looking for the perfect product, remember the fewer chemicals the better! Also take into consideration how the product feels on your hands – if it feels tacky and sludgy, and you put it on your hair, that’s how your hair will feel.

Become best friends with your conditioner.

Conditioner is second nature to us girls and boys with longer hair, but it is even more crucial during the hotter months. Not only does the conditioner reduce frizz in different climates, it also keeps your hair smooth and manageable. Our top tip; try mixing a little bit of your favourite conditioner with water in spray bottle and take it with you to the beach or pool. The perfect way to keep your hair conditioned while you’re in the sun.

hairdryer

Give the hairdryer a well earned break.

This is a personal favourite,  go heat free; leave your hair to air dry. Why not team this up with one of our up-do’s below – After all Summer is hot enough without adding blow-drying and styling into the mix. Also, think about wearing your favourite straw hat or Audrey Hepburn scarf to shade your hair from the midday sun.

Chlorine hair tips

Avoid Chlorine.

I don’t know about you but I’m not about to start squeezing into a swimming hat on holiday; but we do need to think of how to treat our hair if swimming with chlorine. Maybe a quick up-do to take a dip, or wearing a sunhat to protect you from those ‘splashy swimmers’. But if popping your head under water is a must, Kerastatse Soleil comes to the rescue again, the after sun shampoo is a nourishing gel that effectively removes chlorine, salt and residues to help relieve hair of their drying effects – plus it has a lovely coconut and jasmine fragrance, perfect for the summer.

blonde highlights hair easy updo plaits

Make it stand out.

Who doesn’t like a quick and easy up do, that looks like you’ve just stepped out of the salon? Me! I don’t know about you but hair down in the warmer weather can easily look a touch on the frazzled side in no time. But we don’t want to just throw our hair up in a pony tail, we want to look like we meant to look this good….. here’s a round-up of the summers favourite up-dos. Why not give them a go and tag us into your creations on socials;

Space Buns – a fun twist on the very formal bun. I used to put my girls in space buns when they were little – but no longer are they only for little ones. Embrace your fun side with this cool up-do.

The Fish Tail Plait – spice up a simple ponytail with this fish tail plait, minimal effort – maximum style.

Knots Bun – exactly as it says on the tin, this super easy bun looks effortlessly elegant and can work both day or night – simply knot you hair, knot it again and keep knotting until you run out of hair and pin into place. Sounds easy right? That’s because it is.

Braid Away – there are so many ways to braid your hair, my social media is full of saved braids that I will attempt this summer. French, Dutch, Side ……. The list keeps on coming.

But if the up-do just isn’t for you, you could always embrace the ‘au natural’ and show off your best 70s volume or failing that you could buzz it all off, à la Demi Lovato.
